Why ClipkeepFree exists
Everyone has copied something, copied something else, and lost the first thing. ClipkeepFree solves exactly that: it keeps a searchable history of the text you copy and lets you bring any of it back with one shortcut.
The idea came from a familiar moment: copying an order number, then absent-mindedly copying something else, and watching the number vanish. The fix should not require an account, a subscription or someone else's server – just a small program that remembers.
We deliberately kept it small. It does one job, works offline and stays out of the way in your tray or menu bar.

What ClipkeepFree is not
Being clear about what a program does not do matters as much as listing its features:
- Not a cloud service. There is no account and no sync. Your history never leaves your computer.
- Not a password manager. Use the pause button before copying passwords, and keep real secrets in a proper password manager.
- Not a backup tool. The history is a convenience, not an archive – keep important information in your documents.
- Not an AI product. Nothing you copy is analysed, summarised or sent anywhere.
How it is built
ClipkeepFree is a small desktop program for Windows and macOS. It runs quietly in the system tray or menu bar, checks the clipboard about once a second and stores everything in a single file in your user folder. There is no installer and no background service – the program you download is the whole product.
Updates are released on the download page and installed manually, so the program never changes without you knowing.
The name
“ClipkeepFree” says it plainly: Clipkeep, and it is free. The program itself is called Clipkeep on your computer. We wanted a name that says what the program does and is easy to spell and search for.
